The Silver Reed LK-150, a manual mid-gauge machine, is a perfect machine for hand knitters who wish to try machine knitting.  Generally, set the tension dial to the suggested hand-knitting needle size for the yarn to be used and obtain the same gauge as you would using the hand-knitting needles.  For a DK-weight yarn that asks for a US needle #6 to get about 5-5½ sts/inch, set the tension dial on the machine to 6, the yarn mast to 0, and you should get about 5-5½ sts/inch.  Then, just follow the hand-knit directions.
